HOTSPUR FALL TO JONES DOUBLE
By BARRY ROBERTS
Prestatyn Town v Holyhead Hotspur v Bangor City Saturday 26th January 2019
Holyhead Hotspur’s disappointing league season continued a pace at Bastion Gardens against improving Prestatyn Town when two first half goals from striker Alex Jones were sufficient to see off the Holy Islanders who competed well throughout but without any joy up front.
Darren Garmey’s men will need to win next Saturday when we have a home clash against fellow relegation candidates Penrhyncoch to stand any chance on beginning a revival in the final third of this season.
With six of the ten remaining fixtures at home it gives Hotspur an opportunity but it must begin as soon as possible.
The hosts struck the post after 10 minutes with their intentions quite clear but to be fair Hotspur gave as good as they got and on 22 minutes a fine run at pace from Mel Mc Ginniss locked threatening but his eventual effort flew just past the post.
However 3 minutes later a cross from out wide evaded everyone except the lurking Alex Jones who snapped up the opportunity to convert from close range.
On the half hour Hotspur keeper Carl Jones had to be alert to prevent an own goal from Tomos Clarke but it was short lived as on 33 Prestayn doubled their score line via that man again Alex Jones completing his brace.
Half Time 2 – 0
On 50 Carl Jones did well to save in a one on one situation while Cory Jones a little later was in the right place to hack a Prestatyn effort off the line which if they had scored would have put the ‘Sea siders’ out of sight.
Toward the end of the match Garmey’s men came close to getting on the score sheet as Mel Mc Ginniss and young substitute Casey Gregg were not far off with good efforts.
